30 pounds in 4 months may be a bit difficult but here goes nothing! First you have to be on fire about losing the weight, I would suggest a full diet makeover. Dont go on any crazy diets that you cant stick with for the rest of your life, because once you stop the diet you gain the weight right back.

Try to cut out unhealthy food, like fast food. Be concious of how many calories you are eating. mypyramid.gov is a great way, and cheap way to find out how much you are eating and keep track of it, this will keep you more concious of your eating habits but it will take some time you fill out the food journal. Be sure to eat breakfast and try to eat little snacks in between your meals: ex. a granola bar, baby carrots, and apple or banana, plain handful of almonds. Try to "eat breakfast like a King, lunch like a Prince, and dinner like a Pauper."

Instead of drinking soda or alcohol to drink water or milk, skim milk is the best and has the same amount of basically everything (protein, vitamins) that whole milk does only less fat, if you don't like skim switch to super skim, it tastes about the same as whole or 2 %.

Try to eat more whole grains as well, yes they have more calories but they are composed of complex sugars which take the body longer to digest so you arent hungry as often. Fruit is a simple sugar so it doesnt stick with you as long but is healthy and great for you nonetheless. Cereal, like the whole grain general mills, is a good snack or you can even substitute it for another meal (but make sure to add something like fruit to it). Oatmeal is great too I have the Quaker Weight control and it fill me up greatly, instead of adding water to it substitute skim milk, it tastes way better.

Eat up on your veggies, they have very low calories and fill you up....you might want to take some beano....it sure give me gas sometimes:)

For protein eat lean meat. Turkey is very lean, and be sure to look at the lean vs fat on the package: 98% lean is healtier than 93% lean obviously...but the leaner it is the more expensive. Egg whites, chicken and skim milk are good sources of protein too. Cut back on the cholesterol intake and your body will thank you. Soy food, like tofu is also a good source of protein...but most people, including me, dont like the taste very much.

Limit your fats and oils. Dont restrict yourself to much or you may be tempted and binge eat all the fats you want, but do try to limit your fats...like on friday nights go for that 1 scoop of ice cream or eat that fun-sized candy bar, but be sure to limit. The best is to cut dessert totally out of you diet but as long as you limit it will be easier for you.

Don't reward yourself with food...an apple yes, but apple pie no. Rewards like "a new pair of shorts" are the best way to do it.

The next thing you'll need to do is exercise. The steps in you house are great try going up and down them repetitive times, wall taps are also good for getting you heart going (jump up and touch as high as you can on the wall or ceiling if you can, do that about 20 times for 3 sets, and work you way up, you'll get some nice leg muscles too! If you have a gym membership use it and go run on the treadmill or lift till your hearts content.

If you dont have a membership and you cant run outside try to use your own body weight to do things. Warm up your body by jogging in place or jumping rope, try to warm up for about 3-5 minutes. You can do tricep dips on a chair or bicep curls with gallon filled jugs or detergent bottles. Pushups and crunches are good too! The link below has some helpful tips with weights. A resistance band is also a great inexpensive way to tone your muscles. Dont worry that you'll get big muscles either just do low weight at high reps (ex.: 5lbs and 15 reps and 2 sets for arms) that way you will only tone the area. Try to work your muscles to fatigue and you'll get more calories burned and better results. The greater the lean mass you have---the greater your muscle mass-- the more efficiently you can burn calories at rest.

Get creative with the weights you use, almost anything will work. Be sure to stretch after you work out and cool down (do an activity at a lower intensity) this will reduce the lactic acid buildup--the burning sensation in your arms or legs or almost any part of the body that you worked out, its more important to stretch afterward than before the exercise in order to lengthen your muscles more effectivly. I am an athlete myself and I have never pulled a muscle from not stretching in the beginning, but if you want to stretch before hand be sure do do so actively, like do lunges or buttkick or high knees.

Remeber 3500 calories= 1 pound of fat so a healthy way to loose fat is to work off 500 calories per day and at the end of the week you will burn 1 lb of fat. You will most likely lose more weight at the beginning of your new diet and exercise and then you'll probably hit a plateau and not lose very much. Be sure to try a new techique at losing weight by doing different exercises.

Don't get discouraged if you mess up, just keep trying and do your best. Have fun with it but remember it probably took you a while to put on those 30lbs so it take some time to burn it off. Shoveling snow is a great way to burn calories too, and gets your driveway shoveled! Good Luck and keep active!
Reply:Walk up and down your stairs 30 minutes a day. Walk every chance you get. ...walk?
Reply:Drink Green Tea and Plenty of Ice cold water trade that with your other drinks and u will lose weight in no time. Im doing it!!
Reply:I probably sound like a broken record by now. Trying to lose weight that fast can be unhealthy. 2 lbs a week after the first few weeks is the rule.

If you cut your food intake down too much, you can go into the starvation mode and gain weight.

If you obsess diet, you will also be more prone to 'fall off the wagon' which won't help you reach your goal.

There are a lot of programs that can help you lose weight safely. Remember while you are reading their claims to read the fine print. They all say - this is not the normal.
Reply:If you don't have money to spend then liquid diets are not going to help. Try a combination of exercise and strength training for at least 60 minutes a day 4 to 5 days a week with a healthy diet that includes lots of vegetables and fresh fruit (not fruit juice). Drink lots of water and don't drink your calories! meaning stay away from soda, juice, whole milk, gatorade and powerades.....just drink water. Watch what you put in your coffee too (creamer is fattening). Watch your portion sizes and eat low fat proteins like chicken, fish and turkey. Try to include fiber in your diet more like whole grain breads. Fiber help produce satiety so you will feel fuller longer and help with weight management goals. Limit dining out too....restaurants add a lot of calories and big portion sizes
Reply:Eat a lot of Veggies and Salads to fill you up. Pasta is good too.
Reply:Try medifast. You lose between 18-20 lbs a month. I lost 60 lbs in 12 weeks :)
